Mission Peak Hike
Where: Mission Peak Trail, 43600 Mission Blvd., Fremont
Difficulty: Moderately Strenuous
Leader: Carl Koskey 510.953.2001
Come join us to commemorate Earth Day. This hike is moderately strenuous and is approximately 7 miles round trip. While this route is more gradual than other alternatives, it is still over 2,000 feet of elevation gain. The trail is not paved so, be sure to wear sturdy shoes. Bring plenty of water, snacks to sustain your energy level, a light jacket, hat, sunscreen, binoculars, and a lunch to enjoy at the top.
Rising steeply to the east of the city of Fremont, Mission and Monument peaks form a dramatic backdrop to the South Bay. The determined and conditioned hiker who reaches the top of Mission Peak will be rewarded with views of Mount Hamilton to the south, the Santa Cruz Mountains to the west, Mt. Tamalpais to the north, and Mt. Diablo and the Sierra Nevada to the northeast. Hawks and vultures share the summit airspace with sailplanes riding the thermals, and a down-to-earth herd of feral goats roams the cliffs.
At Ohlone College, park in the lot closest to the gym and pool. The trail is behind the pool area.
Daily Permits can be purchased for $4.00 at the kiosk machines located in the parking lots at all levels, near the elevator. Daily permits may also be purchased via your mobile device using the Ohlone College Parking Permit QR Code.
