The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, consisting of the de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park and the Museum of the Legion of Honor in Lincoln Park have recently extended free Saturday admissions to ALL residents of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma counties. This affords all residents of the Bay Area an ideal opportunity to revisit these institutions and experience world-class art in these beautiful settings cost-free.
In January we will take advantage of this new prerequisite and visit the de Young. We will meet in the lobby at 11:00 AM, and first enjoy a brunch in the Museum Café before heading into the galleries to view the permanent collection. As a bonus, the special exhibit, Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power-1963-1983, which usually requires a separate admission, will on this particular Saturday also be free of charge.
To avoid lines on our visit, everyone should reserve their tickets in advance on the FAMSA website, which is given in the information box above. And remember to bring some form of ID such as a driver’s license, passport or military or student I.D., or an addressed document such as a utility bill to identify yourself at the door as a Bay Area resident. Please also be sure to sign-up on the EBN website so we know whom to expect as participants.
We look forward to an enjoyable day of cultural refreshment with you and other EBN friends.
(And if you enjoy this event, remember we will be visiting the Palace of the Legion of Honor on March 28th. )
